The US health regulator's approval of an anti-impotence drug that treats erectile dysfunction has hit the market, where it's been in the headlines, after a long wait for a drug that would help men regain their confidence.
A recent review of the data showed that the drug was not approved for use in men, despite a high of 3.1 million prescriptions in the US in 2015, despite the fact that it had been approved for use in the UK by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) for the first time in 2021.
However, the MHRA has issued a statement saying that the drug is for men suffering from erectile dysfunction, as the MHRA considers it the most suitable treatment for the condition.
"The MHRA considers erectile dysfunction a medical emergency in which there is an urgent need for urgent medical treatment," the statement said.
The review found that 5.4million prescriptions had been written for the drug over the same time period, despite an average of 2.3 million prescriptions written.

It added that a lack of sexual arousal and adequate blood flow to the penis makes it difficult for a man to get and keep an erection.
